Clan Functions & Description: Many years ago, the Mononoke Clan was a force to be reckoned with. During the great Clan Wars, the members of the clan were fierce contenders on the battle field. Their unique abilities and style of fighting had earned them the alias of Ghouls. Their very appearance in a fight had the power to strike fear into the hearts of their opponents and could send even the bravest of warriors fleeing in the other direction. This of course, was a long time ago.
In modern days, the clan itself is not as well-known as they once were. They reside within the mountains that surround the older city of Iwagakure, settling within a compound of older abandoned temples that had been left to ruin. The Mononoke have dwindled in numbers, and for the most part they lack shinobi. They take to restoring the shrines and temples within the mountains as well as culturally important places within the older city. Maintaining their upkeep and keeping them from crumbling.
While few and far between, that does not mean that there are not those from the clan who do chose the shinobi lifestyle. Most follow this path for a simple reason of desire to protect their clan. While they do live under Iwa’s protection, there compound being within the mountains means that help is not always quick to arrive. The mountains do provide a natural barrier for defense, but without those who have been trained to fight, the clan would sooner fall to outsider invasion of bandits or even wild animals. Others of the clan however have their own reasons to fight.
Despite their current seclusion, and the length of time it has been since the Clan Wars, there are many rumors about member of the Mononoke. Claiming that they eat people, that they are ghosts, or the living dead; all these rumors are of course untrue. None the less, this gives people a sense of caution from venturing to their compound in the old temples, or even getting close to any of them when they are in public. Of course, until you see their abilities or hear their name, you would be hard pressed to know they are of the Mononoke Clan. There are no distinguishing features that set them apart from anyone else, until you find yourself fighting one.
Kekkai Genkai/Hidden Technique Description: All members of the Mononoke Clan have two basic abilities that are a part of their Gōsutogō. The first being that they are able to create and utilize a substance called ectoplasm in a variety of ways. The second ability is that all members of the clan are able to utilize the manipulations of one’s own particles of existence. These abilities can be used in a variety of ways, both together and separate.
Ectoplasm, a sort of slimy white goop that can easily be generated, created, and manipulated by all members of this clan. A Mononoke clan member has a unique organ that exists in their body, and is connected through the nervous system to the skin itself. Their eyes function as part of the regulation of the organ involving the creation of ectoplasm. If a member considerably over works this organ their eyes will become red, this being just a unique physical quirk.
Since the organ is connected straight to the Mononoke’s skin, the ectoplasm is able to be generated ANYWHERE on the user’s body, as well as be freely manipulated. Ectoplasm in itself is highly volatile. Extreme heat or flames causes the goop to explode easily. Users are able to form their ectoplasm as well. Advanced users are able to cure the ectoplasm, losing its volatile nature and instead becoming harder than diamond.
The second attribute of this clan is a bit more precise, that being the particle part. A clan member is able to manipulate their own particles in order to complete the illusion of their ghost like behavior. Most of the jutsu that the Mononoke pass down that involves particles requires the ectoplasm in some way. Although advanced, there are a few examples within the clan where the member can simply use particle manipulation by itself.

Ecto Blast

Description: The user is able to generate and shape ectoplasm into their hand as big or small as they want. By infusing chakra into the ectoplasm they can then throw a ball or blast a beam at their target. The ball form will explode when it hits its target causing melting of both organic and mineral substances a like. The beam form has the same effect with addition force added. This jutsu is controlled destruction. The ball can be thrown as far as a baseball, and the beam shoots out 10 meters.

Description: A ninjutsu that utilizes ectoplasm to create a clone. Unlike a normal clone, the ecto version has the ability to interact more with the environment due to it having physical substance. This allows the clone to carry out a variety of physical actions, as well as utilize the ectoplasm that makes up its existence. Clones can take on either the volatile nature or the hardened nature of ectoplasm. The clone may either harden or use its volatile nature, based on the user’s rank. If a volatile clone is destroyed, it will explode. If the clone was in its hardened state and somehow manages to be destroyed (or more likely run out of chakra) then instead the body will fall where it may and dissolve into a goopy pile.
Ghostly Wail

Description: The user releases a highly destructive stream of ectoplasm mixed with chakra from his or her vocal cords and mouth. It is accompanied by a distinct ghostly moaning sound. The duration of the wail and the size of the stream or dependent on the amount of chakra used. This blast is able to blast through boulders and knock over trees.
Intangibility

Description: By using particle manipulation the user is able to speed up their own particles and shift their density to then allow objects to pass through them or to go through things. While intangible, combat is not possible.
Flight

Description: One of the most advanced uses of particle manipulation of this clan, some members have been able to obtain flight. By manipulating ones particles to decrease both density and mass, essentially becoming akin to a hot air balloon, which they then manipulate their chakra to control speed and direction.
